Refugee Support Services

MCRC has been providing services to immigrants and their families within the Erie area for over 35 years. Our Refugee Social Services (RSS) Program has been in existence since 1999 and helps Refugees or Asylees who have lived less than five years in America and supports employability services and other services that address barriers to employment such as Social Adjustment, Interpretation and Translation, English as a Second Language and Citizenship and Naturalization.   Typically, after a person or a family has been resettled in Erie through a local resettlement agency, they become eligible for RSS services after 6 months and for a period of up to 5 years from the date of their entry into the United Stated. Our services include the following programs: 

 

  • RSS Case Management 
  • Job counseling 
  • Resume development, job search, job placement and referral  
  • Job coaching 
  • Employability assessment 
  • Training and job development 
  • Vocational training and skills recertification 
  • Job placement 
  • Job maintenance 
  • Social adjustment 
  • English language instruction 
  • Interpretation and translation 
  • Coordinating Day care for children 
  • Citizenship and naturalization assistance 
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes
  • Intensive Family Case Management 
  • Elderly Refugee Program 
  • Interpretation and translation services available for clients and employers in Arabic, Somali, Nepali, Russian, French, Swahili, Dari and Pashto
