Office Assistant - Assist the Director of Child Care Services with part-time general office duties and communications. Flexible daytime schedule.

 

Classroom Assistant (Materials Prep) - Adult ESL instructor would like to have part-time assistance in preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom displays, and student record-keeping and filing.

 

Classroom Assistant (Cultural Resource) - As a North American citizen and native English speaker, share your cultural heritage,  practical experience, and personality with new immigrant clients as a classroom assistant in Life Skills Training.  Be yourself and enjoy the interaction with folks from other cultures.

 

Classroom Assistant (Adult ESL) - Assist this instructor in ESL classes as adult clients focus on job preparation and readiness training.  Work individually or with small groups in developing speaking, reading, and writing abilities. 

 

Citizenship Study Coach - Your compassion and communication skills will help our client successfully prepare for her U.S. Citizenship examination.  Imagine helping someone reach that achievement.  Materials and training are available.  Coaching sessions must be after 2:30 any days Mon. – Thurs.

 

Reading Tutor (Adult ESL) - Our client is eager to join the workforce, and she speaks English well.  With some tutoring support to help her improve her reading and comprehension of English, she will become a valuable employee and achieve her goal to build a better life for herself and family.

 

ESL Learning Assistant - There’s a thrill and personal sense of accomplishment knowing you have helped an adult English language learner reach a new level of understanding and confidence in speaking English. You know you have contributed to making life easier and better for that person.If you have experience in ESL learning, or if you are ready to take on the challenge of working in the classroom with adult ESL students with low level language skills, we have an opportunity for volunteer service you will enjoy. We are seeking a volunteer to serve as classroom aide to assist a teacher in a beginning level ESL class.

 

MCRC Historian – The Multicultural Center is seeking a person to assume the responsibility of ‘Historian’ for the organization.  This person would seek out photos, newspaper stories, and other documents that are pertinent to the history of the Hispanic American Council and MCRC and organize these documents into a chronological history of the agency.  At some point, we would scan this material and make it available on our webpage.  Hours could vary (depending on the volunteer’s schedule) and staff support will be available.

 

Help a Student Apply for School Entrance, Financial Aid:  If you are willing to guide and assist a high school student begin the process of applying to enter college or post-high school training and find their way in applying for financial aid, MCRC has several opportunities for one-to-one volunteer service.  As a volunteer mentor, you will be part of an active support team helping students from our refugee communities begin their exciting higher education adventure.

 

Pick up, Pack up, Paint up, and Polish: MCRC is expanding our physical space as well as our services to Hispanic and refugee communities. In just a short time, we will begin to tidy up and make repairs to a recently acquired building next to our Center at 554 East 10th St. in Erie. We are seeking individuals and small groups of volunteers to help us prepare the building for case worker offices and community activities and services. Our preparation needs include cleaning, moving boxes and some furniture, painting various rooms and hallways, floor buffing, chair seat covering, and some light handyman repairs and fix ups.
